Earliest meeting: Monday 9th June 1783 Final meeting: August 1784 The Shropshire market town of Cleobury Mortimer once held its own race meetings in the latter part of the 18th century. It is one of the smallest market towns in the county and was granted its market charter as early as 1253. The course was situated at Holifast near to the town and first staged a 2 day meeting on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th June 1783. Entries were made at The Eagle or the King’s Arms and an Ordinary was served at both establishments after racing. The Shrewsbury Chronicle reported a one day meeting taking place at Holifast in August 1784.
